Gauzebrook Gallivant 2018

Following on from the success of events in 2016 & 2017 in which an estimated £2500 has been raised; we are once again privileged to organise this years fundraising walk on behalf of the Gauzebrook Group.

The “Gauzebrook Gallivant 2018” is a 22½ mile (36km) circular walk, taking in the 8 villages and 9 churches in the Gauzebrook ParishThe walk will be held on Saturday 12th May 2018, and will take around 11-hours to complete. We will be mainly using public footpaths and country lanes that will take us in a clockwise direction through the Parish starting from Stanton St Quintin, as we enjoy the stunning countryside and company of fellow walkers. This walk is open to all; however, if you would like to walk only certain stages of the route with the main group, this can also be achieved.

Starting early morning from the quaint St Giles Church in Stanton St Quintin (roadside parking in village), we will head through Stanton Wood on our journey to the impressively listed St Giles Church on the outskirts of Alderton; from here it is just a short walking section to St Mary with St Ethelbert Church at Luckington, a popular visitors attraction for fans and followers of Pride & Prejudice, and the first of our refreshment breaks. Our next stop will be at Holy Cross Church in Sherston. Leaving Sherston, we head in an easterly direction across the fields towards the idyllic woodland location of Easton Grey Parish Church, with its superbly preserved Victorian interior. Leaving Easton Grey, we once again head across the fields, through glorious woodland to the parish of Foxley and the smallest church in England at Bremilham, before returning to Foxley Church for refreshment. This latter stage has been designated the “Children’s Walk” and is an ideal opportunity to encourage some of the younger members of the Parish to join in and walk with us from Foxley to Bremilham and return to Foxley – details in FAQ below. Leaving Foxley, we head the short distance across the fields to Norton Church; after a brief stop, we head further south on our final walking leg to St Mary Magdalene Church at Hullavington, following which we will share transport back to vehicles and our starting point at St Giles Church in Stanton St Quintin, where we will be able to enjoy refreshments on the patio at the newly refurbished Stanton Manor Hotel.

We would like to to express our sincere thanks to Stanton Manor Hotel have kindly offered to sponsor the event for the 3rd year running.

The entire proceeds will go to the “Gauzebrook Churches Children’s Worker Fund.

To join us on the whole walk, or just certain legs, your suggested donations will be made by clicking ‘MyDonate‘.

On the MyDonate site, there will be a donation requested of £25.00 to join the whole walk or, £3.00 per leg of the walk; and please think about including “Gift Aid” – every penny counts!

Once you have donated please let us know, so that we can a) have an idea of how many folk are joining us on the walk and, b) we can let Stanton Manor Hotel know how many to cater for at the post-walk refreshments.
