10.30am-2.30pm – Introduction to Nordic Walking Course

The aim of the course is to teach you the basic skills required to successfully and effectively Nordic Walk in a safe, enjoyable and fun way. During the course you will learn about the basic techniques of Nordic Walking; how to warm up and cool down safely and effectively; pole selection and purchasing poles; a brief history of the activity; learn how Nordic Walking can help you get and keep fit; what other activities can Nordic Walking can be used in; and what to do with your newly acquired Nordic Walking skills and knowledge. You will be guided through your Beginners Course by INWA National Coach & Instructor – Steve Ellis.

If at any time you are unsure of what is being instructed or asked of you, please ask – we all learn in different ways!

During the first few hours we will concentrate on teaching you the basic steps of Nordic Walking, then we head out on a short journey thus allowing you to use your newly acquired skills with the addition of further techniques being taught, and your own style being honed by our instructor.

During the sessions, we ensure that you have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the scenery whilst rehydrating; with refreshment and comfort stops key to the enjoyment of your Nordic Walking experience.

The course fee is £60.00, and includes full instruction throughout the course, pole hire for the course, Membership to Gemini Outdoor and associated discounts (continual coaching as you progress and beyond, discounted hill and mountain adventures, and great discounts at Cotswold Outdoor & BCH Camping); it does not include refreshments, snacks, lunches etc, or transport to/from course locations, including any fuel costs, bridge tolls etc.

Winter Nordic Walking Weekend – 12-14 January 2018

What is it?  The “Winter Nordic Walking Weekend” is aimed at Nordic Walkers who want to experience and enjoy the winter conditions, mountains and surrounding areas safe in the knowledge that they are being led by an experienced and qualified International Mountain Leader who has been exploring and leading expeditions in the Brecon Beacons National Park for over 15 years.

When?  Arrival is from 4pm on Friday 12th January. Each days walking starts at around 9.00am and finishes around 4pm with “tea & cake”.

Where and What is the Accommodation?  Llanddeusant Youth Hostel, Brecon Beacons.

The Red Lion is a 200-year old former Inn located in the heart of the Black Mountain on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park overlooking the Sawdde Valley, and is ideally suited as a base for this Hill Skills Course, and for getting away from everyday life for the weekend. Upon entering the Hostel, you pass through the ‘boot and drying room’ before entering the open plan living downstairs, comprising sitting room, dining room and self-catering kitchen, meaning you can be toasty in front of the open log fire and still be part of everything going on. Upstairs there are 5 bedrooms (sleeping, 8, 6, 4, 4, 4). Bed linen is provided. There are also 2 showers and 3 toilets, with hand basins in each of the bedrooms.

When can I arrive? The accommodation is available from Friday afternoon at 4pm, and we will have exclusive use until we depart on Sunday afternoon. There is also ample parking for 10 vehicles.

What are the sleeping arrangements?  Llanddeusant Youth Hostel has 5 bedrooms sleeping up to 20 people.

What is the Cost?  The “Winter Nordic Walking Weekend” is £220.00. A £50 non-refundable deposit is required by 16th November 2017, with the balance to be paid by 14th December 2017.

An “Early Bird Fee” of £200.00 is available when booking and full payment are received by 16th November 2017.

What is included in the all-inclusive Residential Cost?  2 nights B&B, lunches on Saturday and Sunday, dinner on Friday & Saturday evening plus ‘tea & cakes’ on Saturday afternoon. Tea & coffee will be available throughout the weekend, as will orange squash and Ribena.

Daytime Session – this session is a minimum of 1 hour of group Group Nordic Walking starting at various locations around Malmesbury and surrounding villages, each session will be followed by 15 minutes of cool down and appropriate stretching. This session may also be a “Trail Walk”, thus up to 4 hours duration. The location and start time of each session will be published in the weeks ahead.

Nordic Walking is a sociable, fun and full-body workout activity, it is suitable for all levels of fitness ability and exercise experience.

“We start and finish together as a group and in the middle everyone is challenged according to their own ability.”

Fees – we provide the specific Nordic Walking poles should you require them. Cost £8.50 with own Nordic Walking poles; and £11 with hire of Nordic Walking poles. Cairngorms Magic

We are heading back to the magical Cairngorms for more big mountain adventures. 

During our time in the National Park, our walks will take us onto some of the UKs highest mountains including the Munros of Cairngorm and Ben Macdui amongst others; all with stunning mountain views; as well as an abundance of flora & fauna. During the week, we will venture out on a 2 or 3-day trek taking in a bothy or two along our route for lunch as well as overnight stops, and experience first-hand all that this amazing about bothying in this rugged corner of Scotland.

Flying from Bristol to Inverness (other options available) on Sunday, we will drive to the Aviemore area from where we will base ourselves for our week of walking. Throughout the week, we will maximise our time using the regular public transport service to take us into the heart of the region. Leaving Inverness on Friday after lunch, we will return back to Bristol afternoon.
