INWA Nordic Walking Instructor
Dave joined Gemini Outdoor as a Member in the Autumn of 2016 following hip surgery. It soon became evident that he is a person who enjoys a challenge; he worked tirelessly to rebuild the muscle lost prior to and post surgery, and started to enjoy longer walks and attend more weekly sessions. In January 2017, he joined us on our Brecon Beacons Nordic Walking Weekend, and found a new challenge – Nordic Walking in the mountains…
During the hottest 5 days of 2017 leading up to the Solstice, Dave joined Steve and John on the 104 miles of the Cotswold Way from Chipping Campden to Bath Abbey; this was closely followed by him signing up to ‘Nordic Walk to the Roof of Africa’. In the meantime, Dave joined our Team to become a Nordic Walking Leader, and over the following months he lead many sessions, encouraging our Members to get the best out of the poles through his ‘leading by example’ approach.
In March 2018, along with his 3 super grown-up children, Dave summited Kilimanjaro with Roy and Steve.
A month later, Dave qualified as an INWA Nordic Walking Instructor, and is now leading groups with the same enthusiasm and energy that was so evident back in 2016!
Now in 2020, Dave has, along with other Members of Gemini Outdoor, taken up the challenge of entering LDWA (Long Distance Walking Association) events, raising the profile of not only Nordic Walking, in particular the benefits of using poles correctly, but also Gemini Outdoor.
